The country is in turmoil – no one respects the constitution, nor the law. The powerful are amassing resources with both hands, while the poor struggle to afford even basic food. Key institutions have strayed from their core purposes and responsibilities, becoming tools for fulfilling personal and political interests. The law enforcement agencies, responsible for the protection of citizens’ lives and property and for preventing crime, are themselves plagued by corruption, bribery, and political pressure. Favoritism and nepotism play a major role in institutional decisions and the appointment of officials. As a result, incompetent and corrupt officials are appointed to important state positions and work under the influence of political affiliations. This problem began when officials prioritized protecting the interests of political parties over those of the state. Consequently, the merit system has disappeared, and institutions have become ineffective.
The culture of corruption and bribery in the police and other law enforcement agencies has not only damaged the credibility of these institutions but has also shaken the public’s trust. As a result, people face even more difficulties instead of receiving justice and protection. Ordinary citizens are forced to pay bribes just to get legitimate tasks done in a timely manner. This situation reflects an administrative crisis and highlights the urgent need for effective measures to establish accountability, the rule of law, and merit-based appointments in a country like Pakistan. Without eliminating corruption in institutions and promoting professionalism, reforming the state system is impossible. Until political influence and nepotism are eradicated, and institutions are bound to work on merit, there is little hope for improvement in law and order in the country.
May Allah keep our country safe and protect it from hidden enemies. Ameen.
