Follies and Mischiefs of Gandapur

The announcement by Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, regarding direct negotiations with Afghanistan is not only being viewed as a violation of constitutional boundaries but also as an encroachment on the powers of the federal government. Pakistan’s constitutional framework clearly states that international affairs and negotiations with other countries are the domain of the federal government, and provinces are not allowed to intervene in such matters.

Gandapur’s statement has sparked a new controversy on a national level, raising concerns about whether provincial governments can engage in such sensitive issues. It is vital for the country’s security and unity that the federal government retains a clear and central role in international affairs, to avoid any constitutional or diplomatic complications.

Experts believe that resolving disputes between Pakistan and Afghanistan can indeed be achieved through negotiations, but these talks must be conducted through the federal government in order to uphold the constitution and protect national unity.
