National Awakening and Khudi (Selfhood): In the Light of the Qur’an and Hadith

The history of the world bears witness that the survival and rise of nations lie in their inner spirit, sense of khudi (selfhood), and spiritual strength. A nation whose youth are aware of their true identity, who have faith in their own potential, and are filled with the spirit of faith, piety, and patriotism, cannot be defeated, even in the face of material deprivation.

In the Holy Qur’an, Allah Almighty has declared faith and inner strength as the foundation of success. As stated: وَلَا تَهِنُوا وَلَا تَحْزَنُوا وَأَنتُمُ الْأَعْلَوْنَ إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ „ Do not lose heart and do not grieve; and you will be superior if you are [true] believers.” (Surah Aal-e-Imran, Ayah 139)This verse tells us that a nation’s true greatness lies in its faith, not merely in its weaponry. A believing nation that trusts in Allah and cultivates a spirit of khudi (self-realization) and sacrifice within itself can never be defeated.

The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:

“A strong believer is more beloved to Allah than a weak believer.”

(Sahih Muslim)

This strength is not just physical, but also includes spiritual, intellectual, and moral power. When the youth recognize their spiritual, intellectual, and moral identity, they have the ability to change the destiny of their nation.

When the Prophet (peace be upon him) was leaving Makkah, he said:

“O Makkah! You are the most beloved place to me. Had my people not forced me to leave, I would never have left you.”

(Tirmidhi)

This Hadith is clear proof that patriotism is a natural sentiment, and the life of the Prophet (peace be upon him) teaches us that love for one’s homeland is not contrary to faith—it is a part of it.

Today, if Muslim youth recognize their khudi (selfhood), make faith their weapon, knowledge their provision, and loyalty to their homeland their mission, then no enemy’s sword can block their path. The building of nations does not take place in the battlefield alon, it happens in the fields of knowledge, action, sacrifice, and character.

Therefore, we must train our youth, guide them towards khudi, faith, knowledge, and righteous action, so that they may lead this nation to awakening, progress, and honor.

O Allah! Grant our youth the recognition of their selfhood, true faith, and love for their homeland, so that we may become a strong, awakened, and successful nation. Ameen, Ya Rabb al-‘Alamin.
