Forbidden Morsel…
Forbidden Morsel has negative effects on a person’s heart and soul. No matter how well it is consumed, it does not bring light and guidance to the heart but rather creates darkness and heedlessness. The greatest harm of haram sustenance is that it distances a person from Allah’s mercy, their prayers are not accepted, and there is a lack of sincerity in their worship. Seeking lawful sustenance is an essential part of faith, necessary for spiritual growth, inner peace, and success in this world and the Hereafter. The impact of haram food is not limited to physical health alone; its most significant harm affects a person’s spiritual state.
Consuming haram income or food leads to a lack of blessings, anxiety, restlessness, and a tendency towards sins. Good deeds become less appealing, there is a noticeable lack of humility in worship, and often a person may find it hard to accept truth and righteousness. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: “The flesh nourished by haram wealth will not enter Paradise.” (Mishkat)
This hadith draws our attention to the fact that the consequences of haram sustenance are not only detrimental in this world but can lead to severe punishment in the Hereafter as well. This is why Islam places great emphasis on earning lawful sustenance, considering it a source of Allah’s pleasure and blessings. Lawful sustenance enlightens the heart, enhances the effectiveness of worship, and brings acceptance to one’s prayers. Therefore, we must always strive to earn lawful and pure sustenance so that our hearts are illuminated, our lives are blessed, and we attain the pleasure of Allah.
